What I am working on

The calendar wall hanging for March is almost finished.

After I finished my Mara shawl I decided to hold off on a new project for a bit and instead I picked up one that I started last year. I am knitting squares with different patterns in grey and dark blue for a blanket using some re-purposed yarn.

Christmas Cat

The next little cross stitch cat is finished and turned into a tiny (7" square) quilt .

Monday

The furry gang woke me up at 4 am. I must have been ready to wake up otherwise I would not have woken up so easily. At 4.30 am I heard an owl outside the bedroom window, but since the city management found it necessary to remove the street lamp that was in the yard next door, it was too dark to see anything. But it sounded very clear and close, I wonder if it was sitting on the fence. I could not really get back to sleep so I just played with the cats that were hanging out on my bed until it was time to get up.

I washed and hung two loads of laundry and spent an hour in glorious sunshine cleaning up some stuff in the garden. The grackles are back and I heard a lot of other birds. It does feel a lot like Spring, but colder weather is forecast for midweek. I hope it will not get too bad. I also wish it would take a break from raining for a bit, the garden is so muddy, I was slipping and sliding all over the place and my socks were soaked, yuck.

The cats are a little put out because I left them alone for so long. Silly things could have looked out the bedroom window and watch me instead of looking out the front windows. Now they are all in the porch getting some sunshine and I am getting ready for some quality time with my sewing machine, I hope I'll have something to show tomorrow.

Weekend

What a nice Spring weekend we had! The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the cats were laying in the porch, soaking up some much needed sunshine. There was food and movies, knitting, reading and stitching and a walk around the property to see how much winter damage we had. Some of the bushes look a little discouraged and time will tell if they survived. We also did some garden planning, I am so itching to get started. My seeds came and I just love that there is a cat on the back of each seed package. I looked through some old craft magazines for some Easter inspiration and found a lot of potential new projects. I hope the weather will stay nice in the coming week so I can catch up on laundry and start digging in the dirt.

Sunday Breakfast

I hope your weekend was a good one too.

My little helpers

On the right you can see my new little book/craft lamp, which is indeed very helpful. On the left you can see my adorable little MamaCat, who is very cute, but not really that helpful at all. I actually ended up putting my stitching project away after she tried to eat it. Rainy days bring out the worst in some of my cats, I tell you.

Finished!

My Mara Shawl came off the needles today and I really like it.

Knitting Progress

One of my plans for this year is to never have more than one knitting project on the needles at any given time. I am now working on the edging of my Mara Shawl and I keep forgetting just how many stitches there are when you like your shawls big, sigh. But it is an easy enough pattern and I can actually read while knitting. I have collected quite a few of the 'free for kindle books' from amazon and I am now reading my way through them on my laptop, nice and big and easy to see. Del bought me a new craft lamp but it has not yet arrived so my stitching project is on hold for now.

Sun and Snow II

Overwhelmed by cabin fever I just had to go out and stomp around in the snow. The snow is so hard in places that it even supports my weight. The stuff on the road is melting but not enough yet, a snow plow would be a good idea right now, but I am not sure our city even has one. I spotted some tracks in the snow, following the 'ancient cat path'. Two of our boys were watching us from the window, wondering what we were doing.

Sun and Snow

Snow looks so much prettier when the sun is shining. Actually, I hope the sun will melt it off the roads so we can go grocery shopping tomorrow, we are running a bit low on everything except cat food.

Feline Friday

Am I cute enough for more treats?

Snow Day

We still have power and the snow is still falling. We spent most of the day watching movies and I finished my wall hanging for February.

MamaCat helped me with that, in her very unique way, as usual.

And here are a few more snow pictures from this afternoon. The snow that is falling now is wet and heavy.

Now it is time to put the soup for dinner on and bake some cheese muffins to go with it. And more knitting is on the program for tonight as well. I wonder if we will be able to get to the farmer's market this weekend.

So Far - So Good

But it ain't over yet. We made it through the first part of the storm, power is still on, we have about  4 1/2" of snow on the back steps, looks like there is more in the yard. The roads in our area usually do not get cleared so we consider ourselves snowed in. Right now it is windy and there is a light icy rain in the air. We are expecting more snow today, yikes!

Snow, Snow, Snow

It started snowing around 1 pm and I have never seen so much snow come down in such short a time, not even in Vienna. It looks beautiful but I hope the ice that is supposed to follow the snow will not do too much damage. Here are some photos taken around 2:30 pm. Del came home early and I am very glad about that.
